Jointline is proud to announce a £500 donation to the the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) to help provide individual Christmas gift bags to care leavers in the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council area.

Every year the council runs a “Christmas Gift Box for Care Leavers” initiative where council staff and supply chain partners are encouraged to donate presents to care leavers who may not ordinarily receive any gifts at Christmas.

Working with LCRIG and local suppliers, the local authority managed to raise a total of £2,950 in 2021 and hopes to increase the support provided this year. The money raised is used to create individual gift bags, containing thoughtful individual gifts for both girls and boys.

Head of Highways at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Dwayne Lowe, said: “Due to the kind generosity of LCRIG, Jointline, Tensar, Connor Specialist Paving, AJ Bretherton Ground Works, Uni-Play, Multevo and Caseys, we managed to provide gift boxes for 98 of our care leavers within the over 21 age category last Christmas. This was an amazing achievement and made a huge difference to some of our young adults who grew up in care. Last years effort would not have been possible without the support of the LCRIG team as all the buying, wrapping and creation of the gift bags was undertaken by Emily and Adam from LCRIG and all at Blackburn with Darwen are hugely appreciative of this enormous and generous effort!”

Susanne Ingham, Secretariat at LCRIG said: “We are delighted to be supporting the “Christmas Gift Box for Care Leavers” initiative again this year. The presents have been chosen especially for the over 21 age group and we hope they will bring some Christmas cheer to care leavers this festive season. A big thank you to our very own LCRIG elves, Emily and Adam for their tremendous efforts and to all of the suppliers who contribute so generously.”

The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) provides Members with a unique platform to engage with councils, the DfT and the wider highways community.
