The Challenge
Marske Mill Lane, located near Saltburn Primary School Lane in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, posed significant safety concerns due to increased traffic and the presence of young students. The Solution
Jointline was commissioned to implement a robust highways safety scheme, incorporating red high-friction surfacing and strategic road markings. The high-friction surfacing aimed to improve vehicle grip, reduce stopping distances, and maintain control, particularly during adverse weather conditions. This surface also serves as a visual cue, alerting drivers to potential hazards and encouraging slower speeds.
Additionally, speed roundels and school warning triangles were installed to highlight the presence of the school. These markings were strategically placed to draw driver attention, prompting adherence to speed limits and increasing vigilance. The steering feedback from the surfacing strips further enhanced driver awareness as they approached the safety zone.
