Our Specialist Surfacing Division undertook a significant project at a distinguished country estate in Lincolnshire, focusing on enhancing both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the estate's infrastructure. This extensive initiative included the replacement of worn public footpaths and a comprehensive revitalisation of the main vehicular access areas, specifically the car park and the grand entrance driveway.
The estate's public footpaths had shown signs of wear and required a replacement that would not only ensure durability and safety but also blend seamlessly with the estate’s historical context and picturesque surroundings. The main car park and grand entrance driveway also needed an upgrade from the previous black tarmacadam to a finish that would resonate with the rural environment.
The project involved several intricate challenges:
The completion of this project met all predefined criteria with high standards. The public footpaths were successfully replaced with resin-bound surfaces, which not only improved safety for visitors through their non-slip properties but also enhanced the visual appeal of the walking routes with their natural aggregate finish. This surfacing solution not only adhered to SuDS compliance for sustainable drainage but also aesthetically enriched the paths.
For the main car park and entrance driveway, a tar and chip finish was applied. This surfacing method involved laying down a layer of hot tar followed by a chip aggregate, which was then pressed to create a durable and aesthetically pleasing surface. This choice of surfacing echoed the rustic charm of the surrounding landscape, providing a hard-wearing and attractive entry point to the estate.
State-of-the-art machinery was deployed, including a bespoke 1-tonne dumper equipped with a sprayer chipper facility for precise application, complemented by mechanical hand sprayers supported by a mobile boiler tanker to maintain optimal binder temperatures during application. This advanced equipment ensured that each phase of the surfacing process adhered to the highest quality standards.
Additionally, the operations were meticulously scheduled to accommodate the unpredictable weather patterns, with robust contingency plans in place to ensure continuous progress without compromising the quality of the installation.
The project not only transformed the functional attributes of the estate's footpaths and vehicular access areas but also significantly elevated their aesthetic appeal. The thoughtful selection of materials and sophisticated application techniques ensured that the new surfaces harmonised with the estate’s prestigious character, enhancing both utility and visitor experience. This refurbishment stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence and our capability to handle complex, high-value projects that require a blend of technical expertise and sensitivity to historical
