Cardiff St Athan Airport Markings Renewed Across Taxiways and Runway

Jointline has completed a programme of airfield marking works at Cardiff St Athan Airport in South Wales, renewing markings across taxiways, runway areas and operational access routes.

The scheme included the replacement and refreshing of yellow, white, red and blue markings to improve visibility and provide pilots, ground crews and airfield vehicles with clearer guidance across the site.

One of the principal elements was the renewal of approximately 1,750 metres of yellow centre-line marking along Alpha Taxiway, covering sections from A1 to A6. Intermediate holding points at A2, A3, A4 and A5 were also refreshed, together with lead lines connecting different parts of the taxiway and runway network.

Runway-related works included refreshing the single-bar 07 threshold marking and sections of the runway edge line. Jointline also renewed touchdown zone markings on both sides of the centre-line and applied lead-on and lead-off lines serving the Hotel and Golf taxiway connections in both the 07 and 25 landing directions.

The runway aiming-point markings were replaced with one large aiming block on each side of the runway. The work was completed as part of the airport’s programme to maintain alignment with current CAP 168 marking requirements.

Taxiway warning and direction markings were also updated. The works included red-background runway heading panels showing 07 and 25 designations, as well as refreshed yellow edge markings and lead lines around the Alpha, Echo and Hotel taxiway areas.

Jointline used specialist airfield marking materials selected for operational areas subject to aircraft and vehicle movements. The system was applied to provide a clear, durable finish across the renewed sections.

Additional works were completed on operational roads and apron areas. These included stop markings, access-road lines, yellow cross markings, blue apron lines and localised taxiway-edge renewals.

Delivering the scheme required careful sequencing across several active movement areas. Each marking had to be positioned accurately, applied consistently and returned to service within the available working periods.

The completed programme has improved the legibility of taxiway, runway and access markings across Cardiff St Athan Airport, supporting clearer navigation and safer movement for aircraft, ground crews and operational vehicles.
