Jointline recently completed a series of pothole patch repairs in Bradford using the Roadmender Asphalt Elastomac system. This innovative approach forms part of the company's commitment to sustainable and efficient road maintenance across the UK.
The Challenge
Traditional pothole repair techniques often involve excavation, saw cutting, and significant vehicle movements, leading to material waste, extended disruption, and higher carbon emissions. Bradford City Council required a method that would not only be durable and quick to apply but also align with environmental targets for sustainable infrastructure.
The Solution
Jointline’s Bradford crew utilised the CE-marked Elastomac product, an advanced, flowable asphalt material derived from end-of-life tyres. Each tonne of Elastomac recycles approximately nine tyres and replaces fossil-based bitumen, reducing carbon emissions by up to 85%. The material bonds directly to the existing surface, eliminating the need for excavation or saw cutting.
Repairs were completed efficiently with minimal disruption to road users. Elastomac’s flexible composition allows it to perform well on both asphalt and concrete substrates, extending the longevity of the repairs.
