Jointline was honoured to collaborate with Leicester City Council (LCC) on a significant urban development project at Belgrave Circle. This project was pivotal in enhancing the space surrounding the Sculptural Gateway, a symbol of the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Ugandan Asians in Leicester. The objective was to implement a resin-bound surfacing scheme that not only complemented the aesthetic of Anuradha Patel's celebrated artwork but also made the area more accessible and welcoming to the city’s diverse communities. By achieving this, the project aimed to reflect the rich tapestry of cultures that Leicester proudly embraces.
The central challenge of the Belgrave Circle project was managing the logistics of transforming a highly trafficked and culturally important public space with minimal disruption. The area's significance as a community hub meant that maintaining pedestrian and cyclist access during the renovations was paramount. Furthermore, the project timeline was constrained by the annual Diwali celebrations, which are a major cultural highlight for the city attracting thousands of visitors.
