A194M - Safety Critical Works

Jointline is an independent national contractor specialising in the installation of temporary & permanent road safety markings, studs, high friction surfacing, overbanding & joint sealing.

The company has a successful track record of delivering high quality, defect free works for National Highways. Success is built on high levels of competency with strength in depth across every delivery stream.

During a recent scheme on the A194M Jointline were able to provide efficiencies of approximately £6000 in negated traffic management costs to National Highways.

This scheme was originally scheduled for 8 shifts at the end of August 2022.  22nd, 23rd 24th & 25th August and also 30th, 31st Aug and 1st & 2nd September.  This was 4 shifts each side of the bank holiday.

These works were on a dual carriageway, and required the Whitemare roundabout leading up to this dual carriageway to be closed for safety reasons while works were carried out. This resulted in disruption for road users and significant traffic management costs each shift.

National Highways were keen to avoid the roundabout being closed on Friday 2nd September, as busier road traffic would mean additional disruption on this day. During one of the regular Scheme progress meetings, National Highways  asked if there was any option to accelerate programme.

The scheduled programme was to provide a 3-man studding and screed crew on the night of Thursday 1st September, and a 2-man machine crew on the evening of Friday 2nd September.  Jointline were able to re-allocate labour and machinery away from less time sensitive projects, and prioritise the National Highways works.

This allowed the contracts manager to send 5 operatives plus a supervisor to site on the night of Thursday 1st September.  An additional multi purpose screed/stud vehicle was supplied alongside a MultiMark machine to provde the crews with adequate resources.

By working an extended shift pattern, this allowed the crews to complete the works a day ahead of schedule.  This resulted in less disruption for road users on the Friday evening and the savings on traffic management costs.
