Read case studyWe are happy to announce the successful rehabilitation of the wooden Gruffalo friends, from The Gruffalo Trail at three separate woodland visitor centres.
The five wooden Gruffalo friends statues were installed at each venue onto concrete pads which had steel rods protruding vertically. This gave the statues the ability to drop onto the rods and be secured with a fixing compound. Shortly after installation, the statues became loose which resulted in them having to be secured again.
However, after being secured, they have once again become loose, which became a health and safety hazard to the trail users.
Whilst on site we proposed an alternate solution to the clients preferred method which involved drilling pilot holes diagonally into the sculptures and the concrete bases, then using 200mm M10 Concrete Screws to provide a secure fixing. The holes were then filled with wood filler and colour matched to the sculptures with paint.
Following on from our improvement works, families can now continue to enjoy searching for Mouse, Owl, Fox, Snake and Squirrel as well as the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's child, in complete safety, in the deep dark wood.
