Jointline recently completed a precision airfield marking project at Donegal Airport, situated at the foot of Errigal Mountain in County Donegal, Ireland. This regional airport plays a crucial role in supporting the Irish Coastguard and other aviation operations, particularly within a geographically sensitive and weather-prone area. The project was delivered in collaboration with Foster Contracting Ltd, who carried out the initial removal works.
Donegal Airport required an upgrade to its existing apron markings to align with the latest European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) specifications. The airport’s remote location and operational schedule meant the work had to be delivered efficiently with minimal disruption to essential services. The project also demanded precise execution to support safe aircraft movement and apron management under variable weather conditions.
Jointline’s specialist aviation team installed six new aircraft stand lines, lead-in lines, and updated stand designators in accordance with EASA regulations. Working closely with FCL, who handled the surface preparation and removal of outdated markings, the team ensured accurate positioning and visibility of all new line work. The works were timed to support continued Coastguard operations and airport safety management without operational delay.
The updated apron markings provide clear, regulation-compliant aircraft stand identification and guidance, significantly enhancing operational safety and efficiency. This supports apron management for both commercial and emergency services, including vital Coastguard operations. The works have improved visual guidance, reduced the risk of ground movement errors, and ensured compliance with the latest aviation safety standards.
