Introduction
Jointline completed a comprehensive civils and surfacing scheme at the Lobslack SPC Yard for Forestry England. The project involved extensive drainage installation, pavement construction, kerbing, and associated infrastructure improvements to enhance the operational performance and durability of the yard facility. Delivered within a carefully managed programme, the works provided a long-term solution to improve drainage efficiency, traffic movement, and surface resilience across the site.
The Challenge
The existing yard required significant infrastructure upgrades to support ongoing operational demands and improve surface water management. The scheme involved the installation of new drainage networks, connections to existing systems, gully installations, pavement construction, and kerbing works, all while maintaining safe access and efficient site operations. Ground conditions also presented challenges, including excavation in hard material and the management and disposal of excavated materials.
In addition, the project scope evolved throughout delivery, with variations including revised drainage quantities, the installation of additional ACO drainage systems, flat edgings, and a new Klargester bypass separator to further enhance environmental protection and drainage performance.
The Solution
Jointline delivered a full civils and surfacing package tailored to the operational requirements of the Lobslack SPC Yard. The works included the installation of both 100mm and 225mm drainage systems, trapped gullies, and associated chamber connections to improve the collection and management of surface water across the site.
The team completed large-scale excavation works, including excavation in hard material, followed by the installation of a durable pavement construction comprising AC32 HDM base layers and SMA PMB surface courses. New HB2 and BN kerbs were installed to define vehicle routes and improve site layout.
Additional enhancements included the installation of ACO S150 linear drainage systems, sump units, flat top edgings, and a Klargester bypass separator to improve environmental protection and ensure efficient drainage treatment. Temporary traffic management, welfare facilities, fencing, and site management were coordinated throughout the project to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
The Benefits
The completed works have significantly improved the functionality and resilience of the Lobslack SPC Yard. The upgraded drainage infrastructure now provides more effective surface water management, reducing the risk of standing water and improving operational safety across the site.
The new surfacing and kerbing provide a durable and clearly defined working environment capable of supporting ongoing heavy vehicle usage. The inclusion of additional drainage and environmental protection measures, including the bypass separator, has further enhanced the long-term sustainability and operational performance of the facility.
